History of Fort Stewart
Fort Stewart was established in 1940 as an anti-aircraft artillery training center. During World War II, the post was used as a training ground for troops and as a prisoner-of-war camp. In the 1950s, Fort Stewart was used as a training site for the Army’s first guided missile units.
